Hello readers! Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday. Each week, list-lovers are invited to create a top-ten on a book-related theme.
This meme was launched by The Broke and the Bookish and has been hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl since January 2018. To get involved, simply visit her website by clicking here.
This week’s topic is bookish merchandise you would love to own. I’m going to add my own twist. As someone who adores reading-related knick-knacks, I’ll be splitting this list into products I’d love to own and ones I already have and adore.
I’m sharing links to a few items I personally enjoy. I am not making money from them and have no responsibility for the quality of any of the merchandise or the content of the websites that sell them.
Let’s start with some of the gorgeous products available from the British Library. This super-sized book depository has over 150 million items and can be found near St Pancras station in London. It receives a copy of every single publication in the UK and Ireland. If that wasn’t enough, it even has a shop packed with beautiful, bookish items.
Library Card Socks The only downside to these stunning socks is feeling the need to rush to the library whenever you glance at your toes. Picture and product from: The British Library
Porcelain ‘Paper Cup’ Mug This quirky UStudio mug may look as though it’s made from paper but it’s porcelain with a beautiful lemon-coloured interior. I’d fill it with my tipple of choice for the perfect accompaniment to a good read! Picture and product from: The British Library
Porcelain Paper Plates If you haven’t already noticed, I really love UStudio’s collection. Like the matching mug, these ‘paper’ plates are really made of porcelain. Team them with a very large book and an even bigger piece of cake. Picture and product from: The British Library
Personalised Books Notebook This little book is definitely on my wish list. My to-be-read pile gets longer by the day and it never hurts to get organised with attractive stationery. Picture and product from: NotOnTheHighstreet.com
The Original Literary Paper Rose Individually handmade, these flowers are produced from old, broken romance novels (the creators promise to never cut unbroken books). Picture and product from: NotOnTheHighstreet.com
British Library Gates Bag We’ve reached the tipping point! From here we’re looking at the products I already own. This British Library bag (yes, you may be noticing a theme here!) is a bargain at just £2.50 and my favourite way to transport library hauls. From: The British Library
Jane Austen Tote Bag Like many of my favourite book-related products this wonderful much-used tote bag was a gift from my lovely sister. The downside is that I haven’t been able to find out whether it’s still available. Thankfully, there are plenty of similar Jane Austen products out there!
Dobby Tea Towel It’s not a bookish merchandise list without at least one Harry Potter-related product. We’ve all seen the wands, robes and scarves but how can you go wrong with a Dobby teatowel? It’s the perfect way to celebrate house elves (the real heroes of Hogwarts!) while doing the washing up. From: Warner Bros. Studio Tour Shop
Emma Bridgewater Mug Prepare yourself for sad news; it’s possible that my much-loved Emma Bridgewater mug is no longer available to buy. It bears the legendary words: “Happiness is a cup of coffee and a really good book”. Let’s hope it’s back in stock for the holiday season.
Discworld Ankh Morpork Board Game I’m a big fan of Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series and this board game was as near as I could come to stepping into the books. Sadly the game’s no longer being produced (this one belongs to someone I know) but a few copies are floating around online in various conditions.
